Halloween Snooping

Halloween is almost here! How many of you are going to be Nancy for Halloween? Believe it or not, I'm actually not going to be Nancy this year (for the record I never have been. I prefer to be something scary that involve lots of make up). I'm going as an elf, as in Lord of the Rings, not Santa-esque.
I think Nancy Drew is just perfect for fall! And apparently the people at HeR think so as well :)

October's Featured

On the first of each month I will be featuring not only a Nancy Drew game, but also the books the game was based off of. Some games are strikingly similar to the book and some are only loosely based but every single game has originated from a book.
October's featured game is

Curse of Blackmoor Manor

What better game to play around Halloween than CUR. This is one of my all time favorites. It's super creepy, full of make-you-jump moments, and the music is creepily fabulous. The puzzles are kind of ridiculously hard at some points. The characters are so weird. And it's in ENGLAND. Need I say more? In fact, I think I might go play it after writing this post. And I'm gonna play on Senior Detective. Oooo. I want to live in this game so badly.

The Bluebeard Room (Nancy Drew, #77)The book CUR was based off of is #77, The Bluebeard Room. I was actually just at the library last week and almost checked this one out. But what stopped me was the fact that there's a love interest in the book that is not Ned. And that's just wrong. But maybe I'll get over it and read it. Maybe I won't and read it anyway. (Why Nancy?! Why would you do this?!?!)

Back to School Sale + DED Screenshots!

HeR is having another sale! Get 25% off any digital game using the code B2S2012.

The DED screenshots are live along with the game storyline!
Fear lingers in a remote laboratory after a physicist's suspicious demise. A police investigation resulted in nothing except a case as cold as the secretive personalities and steel walls that enshroud a top-secret Tesla-inspired facility. That's why the lab owner asked you, as Detective Nancy Drew, to expose the terrifying truth about The Deadly Device!
I tried to get the pictures as big I could without them going all grainy. To view them all together go to the game page.

September's Featured

On the first of each month I will be featuring not only a Nancy Drew game, but also the books the game was based off of. Some games are strikingly similar to the book and some are only loosely based but every single game has originated from a book.
September's featured game is

Warnings at Waverly Academy

This is one of my all time favorite games, and it's perfect for the back to school season! I have addictions to creepy boarding schools, Edgar Allan Poe, and of course Nancy Drew so this is the ultimate game for me. Seriously. I love everything about it! The atmosphere, the puzzles, and the library. I want that library. Actually, I really really want to go to school there. The characters are awesome as well. Mel is my favorite :)

The Curse of the Black Cat (Nancy Drew, #158)WAC was based off The Curse of the Black Cat. Now, I haven't read this one yet but I'll have to soon. I mean, the Black Cat? That's my favorite Poe story! (I even have a mug with the artwork from the game.) It sounds really similar to the game, which seems to be a bit of a change. A lot of the more recent games seem to be just loosely based off the books.

August's Featured

On the first of each month I will be featuring not only a Nancy Drew game, but also the books the game was based off of. Some games are strikingly similar to the book and some are only loosely based but every single game has originated from a book.
August's featured game is

Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake

Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake Coverart.png
It's the last month of summer, so what's a better way to spend it than at a haunted lake house? DOG was one of my earlier games, back when the creepier games, such as this one, really freaked me out. My brother and I got this game from the library before we owned them all and we started this quite late at night. All was going well until the dogs started howling at the beginning and I clicked like mad to get back into the house. Then one of the dogs threw itself onto the door and I about leaped a good foot into the air, causing the keyboard and mouse to fly up as well. I think I was about ten.

Mystery by MoonlightNancy Drew Ghost Stories
DOG was actually based off of not just one book, but two! Well, one book and a short story if you want to be specific: #167 in the main series, Mystery by Moonlight, and Ghost Dogs of Whispering Oaks which is in the Nancy Drew Ghost Stories book. Now, I haven't read Mystery by Moonlight but I do have the Ghost Stories book. The story in that is very similar to DOG, but a bit ridiculous in comparison, I think. The dogs in that were people dressed up to look like "ghost dogs." Umm, what? Haha, but the other stories in the compilation are pretty good.

Weekend Puzzle Solution

I have a new puzzle for you to crack. It contains an insider look at The Deadly Device. ;)

Okay so this one stumped me immensely.

For this puzzle you need to use a bifid cipher with a Polybius square.
The answer is RIGHT IS HIGHER.

To be honest I still haven't really figured out how to work it to get the answer.

July's Featured

This a new feature here on the sleuth. On the first of each month (with the exception of this month) I will be featuring not only a Nancy Drew game, but also the books the game was based off of. Some games are strikingly similar to the book and some are only loosely based but every single game has originated from a book.
July's featured game is

The Secret of Shadow Ranch

The Secret of Shadow Ranch Coverart.pngWith all the heat over here lately I thought SHA would be perfect game to start this off with. SHA was one of my first games. After finishing Last Train to Bluemoon Canyon, we rushed out to buy more, coming home with a double pack that included Curse of Blackmoor Manor and SHA. Being new to ND, I had so much trouble with this game, but not as bad as trying to get through TRN, but that's another story. So here's a hint if you are stuck at a certain point in the game (and trust me, you'll need it):
When you get to the puzzle under the zebra rock, open and close the rock SIX (6) times. When you look under the puzzle will be done for you!
I wish I'd know that before.

Now if you noticed on the box art it says "Classic Mystery Edition." Does that yellow color look familiar to you? SHA was based off of #5 in the yellow hardbacks, The Secret of Shadow Ranch. The book and the game are surprisingly similar, save for a few small details. The book was quite enjoyable despite the fact that I already knew who the culprit was from playing the game :)

Weekend Puzzle Solution

I had a bit of trouble this week so I had to wander over to the HeR message boards. From what I read and what I figured out on my own, I think I got it.

Each key is from a different game. In order they would be:

There was only one I couldn't pin point.

Anyway, take the full title of each game and with the number next to each key, count until you reach that number letter in the title.
Example: The first key is from The Creature of Kapu Cave. The fourth letter is C so the first letter in the answer is C.

The answer is:

Now the question is, what does that mean?

How to Read Spoilers

I've gotten a few comments about the previous post regarding the puzzle solution. The solution is highlighted in blue (for future reference they won't always be highlighted in blue) so that if you don't want the solution spoiled for you, you don't have to read it. This is something that they do on the HeR forums so you don't spoil the puzzles and clues for other players.

Reading these are quite simple. (Don't feel bad if you were confused. I didn't know what to do the first time I saw these.) All you have to do to highlight the lines with your cursor.
Try it!

Nancy Drew :)

Fancy huh?

I will be adding a FAQ page soon regarding issues like this and abbreviations I frequently use. If you have any other questions feel free to comment or shoot me an email!

Have a nice day!

Weekend Puzzle Solution!

Did you guys solve the puzzle yet?
Here it is again.

And here is my solution:
highlight to view

Each number is a letter. 1 is A, 2 is B, an so on.
Once translated it looks like this:

It's a rail fence cipher! Remember these from ICE?
Take the first top letter, then the letter below that, then the letter on the second column, the letter below that second column, etc. Now we have:

Now just rearrange the words and voila!

Not too bad huh? I think that was one of the more easier puzzles.

What Nancy Drew Players Say

Check out the new video from HER's marketing intern, Phoenix!
I totally find myself saying half of these things...

Why Hello There!

Ta-da! I have a new blog!

If you have been on either of my other blogs, you may have noticed that I love Nancy Drew. This is my new home to share my obsession with you!

I will be posting about new and old books, the HerInteractive games, and anything else related to Nancy!

I started reading Nancy Drew in fifth grade along with playing the PC games. It gradually grew into a wonderful obsession with all things Nancy.

I am currently building this site so check back in to find new additions!
